Congress has extended federal extended unemployment benefits through the end of February 2012.  The legislation extends the availability of benefits in all tiers of Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC)  and Extended Benefits (EB) (in states that qualify) for two months. 

If your benefits are expiring between now and the end of February you should be able to move (if you qualify) to the next tier of extended benefits.

This is a temporary extension of federal unemployment benefits. Long-term unemployment benefits and payroll tax cuts will be back on the agenda for Congress prior to the end of February.  Hopefully, a longer term extension will be passed then.

Important: Check your State Unemployment Office website for details on who qualifies for extended benefits and when and how benefits will be paid.  Check the "Extended Benefits" section for information.
